The service should be as clear as the plan. These are the terms.
These Terms explain the agreement between BeaconEd and the paying parent or guardian, the student's role, what Founding Families includes, what it does not include, and how payment, delivery, cancellations, and support work.
TERMS QUESTIONSteam@beaconed.caTHE SHORT VERSION
The agreement at a glance.
This summary highlights the main commitments. The complete Terms below govern the service together with the family's order summary.One family service
A parent or guardian purchases the service for an eligible student and joins the process with them.
Four deliverables
Supplemental guidance, Your Beacon, a 30-minute founder conversation, and questions through application season.
Student ownership
BeaconEd guides and reviews. The student makes the decisions, writes their application work, and submits it.
Rights preserved
These Terms do not remove any non-waivable rights provided by Ontario or Canadian law.
These Terms of Service form an agreement between BeaconEd and the person who uses the website or purchases a BeaconEd service. For Founding Families, the paying parent or guardian is the customer and the student is the participating student. In these Terms, "BeaconEd," "we," "us," and "our" refer to BeaconEd.
These Terms, the Privacy Policy, the transaction-specific order summary, and any written terms BeaconEd and the customer both accept make up the complete agreement. The order summary controls only where it provides more specific information about that family's price, taxes, delivery dates, service period, or other transaction-specific details.
Agreement and acceptance
By using the website, creating an account, or purchasing a service, the person confirms that they have read and agree to the version of these Terms presented to them. A customer who purchases Founding Families will receive a clear opportunity to review the transaction, correct errors, accept or decline the agreement, and retain a copy.
The customer's order is accepted when BeaconEd sends a written confirmation. That confirmation will identify the customer, the date of the agreement, the services purchased, the price and currency, applicable taxes or additional charges, payment arrangements, anticipated delivery or performance dates, and the contact information needed to ask questions or give notice.
If a person does not agree to these Terms, they must not create an account, submit an intake, purchase a service, or use any feature that requires acceptance.
Who may purchase and participate
Founding Families is intended for an Ontario student preparing to apply to an Ontario university for the next admission cycle, together with a parent or legal guardian. Availability is limited and BeaconEd may confirm eligibility before accepting payment.
- The customermust be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter the agreement. The customer is responsible for payment and the customer's own information.
- The student participates in the intake, research process, plan, supplemental guidance, and founder conversation. The student keeps their own privacy rights and must understand the parts of the service that use or share their information.
- The family must identify which student and parent or guardian are participating. Another person may not impersonate either participant.
BeaconEd is not directed to children under 13. The Privacy Policy explains how consent and family sharing are handled for students and parents.
The Founding Families service
Unless the order summary says otherwise, Founding Families includes four connected forms of support for one student:
- supplemental application guidance for relevant applications, interviews, or portfolios;
- a researched, student-specific planning document called Your Beacon;
- one 30-minute conversation with BeaconEd founder Matthew Svacina for the student and parent or guardian; and
- general Ontario university-program and application-process question support until application season is over.
The service is individualized research and educational planning guidance. It is not an application-submission service, unlimited consulting retainer, admissions decision, emergency service, tutoring program, or guarantee that every possible university, program, scholarship, pathway, or concern will be investigated.
The service is prepared around the participating student's courses, priorities, constraints, questions, and selected admission cycle.
Your Beacon
Your Beacon is a personalized research and planning document. Its contents may include a student and family starting point, evaluation criteria, a focused program shortlist, program profiles, prerequisite and pathway review, application planning, cost or relevant scholarship considerations, five prioritized next moves, a founder-conversation agenda, and a source and verification register.
BeaconEd normally researches five shortlisted programs and will not include more than seven unless the order summary or another written agreement says otherwise. The shortlist is not a ranking, match score, admission probability, or instruction to apply. A program may be included because it deserves investigation even when an important requirement, trade-off, or open question remains.
Your Beacon reflects the information available at the time identified on the document. It will distinguish information supplied by the family, information verified from official sources, BeaconEd's interpretation, and matters that still need confirmation where that distinction is relevant.
Supplemental application guidance
Supplemental guidance may include explaining a published requirement, helping the student interpret a prompt, planning a response, identifying real evidence from the student's experience, discussing structure, preparing for an interview or portfolio requirement, and reviewing the student's work for clarity, completion, and alignment with the instructions.
BeaconEd will not invent experiences, write an application in the student's voice, impersonate the student, complete an assessment that must be independent, access a university portal as the student, or submit an application on the student's behalf.
The student is responsible for following each institution's academic-integrity, originality, disclosure, and artificial intelligence rules. BeaconEd may decline a request that would misrepresent authorship, credentials, experience, or eligibility.
Research, sources, and changing information
BeaconEd uses official university, faculty, program, OUAC, and other authoritative sources where reasonably available. Source links, reference years, verification dates, and unresolved questions may be included so the family can see the basis and limits of the guidance.
Universities and other organizations control their own programs, requirements, deadlines, fees, scholarships, supplemental processes, and decisions. They may change, correct, remove, or publish information after BeaconEd reviews it. BeaconEd does not control those changes and is not affiliated with a university or OUAC.
The family must recheck material requirements and deadlines with the relevant official source before changing courses, submitting an application, paying a third party, or relying on a time-sensitive fact. If official sources conflict or a fact cannot be confirmed, BeaconEd may mark it as an open question rather than guess.
Founder conversation and scheduling
Founding Families includes one 30-minute remote conversation with BeaconEd founder Matthew Svacina. The student and parent or guardian should review Your Beacon before the meeting and attend together unless BeaconEd agrees otherwise in writing.
The meeting link, available times, time zone, and rescheduling instructions will be provided with or after delivery of Your Beacon. A family that cannot attend should give as much notice as reasonably possible. BeaconEd will make a reasonable effort to reschedule one missed or cancelled meeting, subject to availability.
A meeting that cannot proceed because a participant is repeatedly absent, more than 15 minutes late, abusive, or unwilling to follow reasonable safety or conduct requirements may be treated as used. Statutory rights and any more favourable written rescheduling promise still apply.
Question support through application season
Continued support covers reasonable general questions about Ontario university programs and the application process that relate to the participating student. Support remains available until application season is over, as further described in the family's order summary or service communication.
Support is not real-time, continuous monitoring, emergency assistance, a promise to answer an unlimited volume of questions, or a replacement for checking university and OUAC accounts. BeaconEd may combine related questions, ask the family to use the agreed support channel, and set reasonable boundaries where requests fall outside the purchased service.
The family remains responsible for monitoring inboxes, university portals, OUAC, deadlines, document requests, offers, conditions, and payments. Time-sensitive questions should be sent promptly with the relevant official notice or link.
Price, payment, taxes, and rebate
The Founding Families price is $99 Canadian, plus any tax that BeaconEd is legally required to collect. The complete attainable price, taxes, payment method, and any additional charge will be displayed before payment. BeaconEd will not add a mandatory non-government fee after advertising a lower price.
$99
Payment confirms the family's place after BeaconEd accepts the order.
$20 back
After the founder conversation, complete the eligible feedback form to make the effective price $79.
Feedback may be positive, critical, or mixed. The rebate does not require a positive review, a public testimonial, permission to quote the family, or the waiver of any right. Testimonial and attribution permission are separate and optional.
Rebate eligibility, the submission method, and the expected processing time will be stated on the feedback form. The rebate is normally returned through the original payment method or another method agreed with the customer. A refunded or reversed purchase is not also eligible for the rebate unless BeaconEd agrees otherwise.
Delivery, cooperation, and delays
The order summary will state the anticipated date or period for BeaconEd to begin and deliver the purchased service. A delivery period begins only after BeaconEd has accepted payment and received a sufficiently complete intake and any reasonably requested clarification.
The family must respond accurately and within a reasonable time. Missing grades, course information, program ideas, family constraints, or clarification may delay research and delivery. BeaconEd will notify the customer if a material delay becomes reasonably apparent and will provide a revised estimate.
If BeaconEd cannot provide a material part of the purchased service, BeaconEd will offer a reasonable correction, replacement, rescheduling option, or refund for the unperformed portion, subject to the customer's statutory rights.
Cancellations, refunds, and consumer rights
A customer may request cancellation by emailing team@beaconed.ca. The request should identify the customer, student, order, and date of purchase without including unnecessary sensitive information.
- If BeaconEd has not begun individualized research, BeaconEd will ordinarily provide a full refund.
- If individualized research has begun but Your Beacon has not been delivered, BeaconEd will assess the work already supplied and the customer's legal rights, then explain any refund or amount retained.
- After Your Beacon has been delivered or the founder conversation has occurred, there is no automatic change-of-mind refund. BeaconEd may still provide a correction, partial refund, or other remedy where fair or legally required.
Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot lawfully be waived. Ontario consumers may have cancellation, refund, and other remedies where required information was not disclosed, an agreement copy was not provided, a service was materially misrepresented, an unfair practice occurred, or delivery did not occur as required by law.
Student and family responsibilities
The student and customer agree to:
- provide accurate, current, and complete information and correct material errors promptly;
- disclose the real courses, grades, application cycle, constraints, and questions reasonably needed for the service;
- review Your Beacon and official sources before acting;
- monitor application accounts, email, deadlines, fees, offers, conditions, and document requests;
- ensure that student application work is truthful, original, and submitted by the student in accordance with the relevant rules;
- protect account credentials, meeting links, and family documents from unauthorized access; and
- communicate respectfully and use the service only for lawful, personal university-planning purposes.
BeaconEd is not responsible for a conclusion that is materially affected by inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or withheld family information, except to the extent BeaconEd knew or reasonably should have known the information was unreliable.
No guarantees or professional advice
BeaconEd provides educational information, research, interpretation, and planning guidance. BeaconEd does not guarantee admission, continued eligibility, a scholarship, an interview, a particular grade, acceptance of supplemental work, a response from a university, or any other result.
The service is not legal, financial, tax, immigration, medical, mental-health, or regulated career-counselling advice. Cost, scholarship, residence, accessibility, or career information is included only as general decision context. Families should obtain qualified advice where their situation requires it.
The student makes the final course, program, application, and offer decisions. Universities, OUAC, scholarship providers, schools, and other third parties make their own independent decisions under their own rules.
Accounts and acceptable use
A user must provide accurate account information, use a strong unique password, keep authentication links and credentials private, and notify BeaconEd promptly about suspected unauthorized access. One person may not use another person's account without permission.
A user must not:
- access, probe, disrupt, overload, scrape, or reverse engineer the website or systems except where law expressly permits it;
- bypass security, rate limits, access controls, or account restrictions;
- upload malicious code or material that infringes another person's rights;
- use automated means to create accounts, obtain service, or extract protected content without written permission; or
- use BeaconEd to deceive an institution, impersonate another person, or violate application or academic-integrity rules.
Ownership and permitted use
The student and family keep ownership of the original information and materials they provide, including the student's own application writing. They give BeaconEd a limited permission to use those materials only as reasonably needed to provide, secure, document, and improve the purchased service in accordance with the Privacy Policy.
BeaconEd retains ownership of its website, brand, templates, visual system, research methods, document structures, software, and original service materials. After full payment, BeaconEd grants the participating student and customer a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use, copy, and share the family's delivered BeaconEd materials for the student's own educational planning and applications.
The family may share Your Beacon with a school counsellor, educator, family adviser, or application helper for the student's benefit. The materials may not be resold, publicly posted in full, used to create a competing service, or stripped of source and limitation notices without written permission.
Privacy, communications, and recordings
BeaconEd handles personal information as described in the Privacy Policy and the notices presented at collection. The shared family intake, Your Beacon, family action plan, and founder conversation are intended to be shared between the participating student and parent or guardian as explained before collection.
Transactional and service communications may be sent as needed to administer the account, order, plan, meeting, support, or rebate. Promotional communications require consent or another lawful basis where Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation applies and will include an unsubscribe method.
A strategy call will not be recorded or transcribed unless every participant is told beforehand and gives express consent. Honest feedback is separate from optional permission to publish a testimonial, name, role, photograph, or other attribution.
Third-party services and links
BeaconEd may use third parties for payment, hosting, authentication, email, scheduling, meetings, and other supporting functions. Their services may be governed by their own terms and privacy notices. Payment-card information should be entered only into the authorized payment provider's checkout.
Links to universities, OUAC, scholarship providers, or other sites are provided for research and convenience. BeaconEd does not control their availability, content, security, terms, or decisions. A link does not mean BeaconEd endorses or is affiliated with the linked organization.
Suspension and termination
A user may stop using the website at any time. Ending use does not automatically cancel a paid order, delete legally required records, or remove obligations that arose before termination. Cancellation and privacy requests must follow the applicable process.
BeaconEd may restrict or suspend access where reasonably needed to protect a student, family, system, service provider, or other person; investigate suspected misuse; prevent fraud; comply with law; or address a material breach of these Terms. Where practical, BeaconEd will explain the issue and provide a reasonable opportunity to correct it.
If BeaconEd terminates a paid service without cause before supplying it, BeaconEd will refund the unperformed portion. No term permits BeaconEd to keep payment for a service it was legally required but failed to provide.
Disclaimers and limits of responsibility
BeaconEd will provide the service with reasonable care and will not exclude any warranty, condition, remedy, or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Subject to those rights, the website and general public information are provided on an "as available" basis.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, BeaconEd is not responsible for indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, or consequential loss, or for loss caused by a university, application service, payment provider, internet interruption, family omission, missed notice, or change in third-party information outside BeaconEd's reasonable control.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, BeaconEd's total monetary liability arising from a paid service will not exceed the amount the customer paid BeaconEd for that service. This limit does not apply where prohibited by law or to liability arising from BeaconEd's fraud, wilful misconduct, gross negligence, or infringement of a right that cannot be limited.
Changes, governing law, and contact
BeaconEd may update these Terms for future use of the website or future purchases. The "Last updated" date identifies the current version. A material change will not retroactively reduce rights or change an accepted paid order without the customer's agreement where consent is legally required.
These Terms and any dispute are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without depriving a consumer of protections that apply regardless of that choice. Nothing in these Terms requires private arbitration or prevents a consumer from contacting Consumer Protection Ontario, a privacy regulator, another regulator, or a court with jurisdiction.
If one provision is unenforceable, it will be limited or removed only to the extent necessary and the remaining provisions will continue. A delay in enforcing a term is not a waiver. BeaconEd may transfer this agreement as part of a legitimate business reorganization or sale only subject to applicable law and the privacy commitments governing personal information.
Electronic acceptance, confirmations, receipts, and notices may satisfy writing and signature requirements where law permits. Customers should download or retain the version they accept. BeaconEd will provide an accessible format or communication support on request.
