Your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information BeaconEd collects, how we use it, how we protect it, and what choices you have.

BeaconEd is designed to help Ontario high school students explore post-secondary pathways, courses, programs, scholarships, and educational opportunities in a more personalized way.

1. Who We Are

BeaconEd is a free web application and early-stage educational platform designed to help Ontario high school students plan for post-secondary education. BeaconEd is currently operated by an individual developer based in Ontario, Canada. BeaconEd is not currently incorporated. You can contact us at: team@beaconed.ca

2. Information We Collect

BeaconEd only collects information that is reasonably needed to provide our services, improve our prototype, communicate with users, and support students who choose to participate.

a) Waitlist information

If you join the BeaconEd waitlist, we collect your email address through our email service provider. We use your email address to: • Notify you when BeaconEd launches • Send relevant BeaconEd product updates • Invite you to early access opportunities • Communicate important changes about BeaconEd You will not receive unrelated marketing from us.

b) Academic profile and intake form information

If you choose to complete a BeaconEd intake form, we may collect information such as: • Name • Email address • Grade • School • Current or planned courses • Approximate academic average • Academic interests • Extracurricular activities • Career interests • Post-secondary goals • Preferred schools or programs • Scholarship interests • Other information you voluntarily choose to provide We use this information to: • Create a personalized education, program, course, or scholarship profile for you • Test and improve the BeaconEd prototype • Better understand what Ontario students need from BeaconEd • Communicate with you about your submission • Invite you to join the BeaconEd waitlist or early-access community Completing an intake form is optional. You should not submit information you are uncomfortable sharing.

c) Profile data stored in your browser

If you use BeaconEd's app features, some profile information may be stored directly in your browser's localStorage. This may include information such as your name, grade, school, course selections, or planning preferences. When information is stored only in localStorage: • It stays on your device and browser • It is not automatically transmitted to BeaconEd's servers • It may be deleted if you clear your browser data • It may not be available on other devices or browsers

d) Automatically collected technical information

BeaconEd does not use advertising pixels or behavioural advertising. However, some service providers, such as our website host, email provider, form provider, or security tools, may process basic technical information needed to operate their services. This may include information such as IP address, browser type, device type, timestamps, or basic usage logs. BeaconEd does not use this information to create advertising profiles or sell user data.

3. How We Use Your Information

BeaconEd uses personal information only for purposes that are connected to the service or that you would reasonably expect based on what you submitted. We may use your information to: • Send launch and product update emails • Create personalized student profiles • Recommend programs, courses, scholarships, or educational pathways • Improve BeaconEd's prototype and user experience • Respond to questions, requests, or deletion requests • Maintain the security and integrity of BeaconEd • Comply with legal obligations We do not use your information for unrelated purposes without your consent.

4. Consent

By submitting your email address, completing a BeaconEd form, joining the waitlist, or using BeaconEd, you consent to BeaconEd collecting, using, and storing your information for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. For intake forms, BeaconEd may ask you to check a consent box before submitting. This helps confirm that you understand what information is being collected and how it will be used. You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting: team@beaconed.ca If you withdraw consent, BeaconEd may delete your information or stop using it, unless we are legally required or permitted to keep it.

5. CASL Compliance

BeaconEd complies with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation, known as CASL. By submitting your email address through the waitlist, intake form, or another BeaconEd sign-up method, you are giving BeaconEd consent to contact you about BeaconEd's launch, updates, early access, and related educational opportunities. Every marketing or update email sent by BeaconEd will include a clear unsubscribe option. We will honour unsubscribe requests as required by law. If you receive a LinkedIn message from BeaconEd or its founder, you can ignore the message, decline to participate, or ask not to be contacted again.

6. How We Share Your Information

BeaconEd does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. BeaconEd may use trusted service providers to operate parts of the platform. These providers may include: • Email service providers • Form providers • Website hosting providers • Database or storage providers • Productivity tools used to organize responses • AI tools used to help generate personalized educational outputs These providers are used only to help operate BeaconEd, process submissions, communicate with users, or create the service you requested. Where possible, BeaconEd limits the amount of personal information shared with service providers. BeaconEd does not share student data with advertisers.

7. Use of AI Tools

BeaconEd may use artificial intelligence tools to help generate personalized education, program, scholarship, or pathway suggestions. If AI tools are used, BeaconEd will aim to limit the personal information included in prompts or outputs. For example, BeaconEd may use only the details needed to create a useful student profile. AI-generated suggestions are for informational and planning purposes only. BeaconEd does not guarantee admission, scholarship eligibility, scholarship awards, or post-secondary outcomes. Users should verify important information directly with official school, scholarship, government, or program websites.

8. Data Retention

BeaconEd keeps personal information only for as long as needed for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. Waitlist email addresses may be kept until: • BeaconEd launches • Early-access notifications are sent • You unsubscribe • You request deletion Intake form responses may be kept while BeaconEd is testing and improving its prototype, unless you request deletion earlier. Browser-stored profile data remains on your own device until you clear your browser data or delete it through the app, if that feature is available. 9. Your Rights

Under PIPEDA and applicable Canadian privacy laws, you may have the right to: • Access the personal information BeaconEd holds about you • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information • Withdraw your consent • Request deletion of your personal information • Ask how your information has been used • File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada To make a privacy request, contact: team@beaconed.ca BeaconEd will respond to privacy requests as reasonably and promptly as possible.

10. Children and Minors

BeaconEd is designed for Ontario high school students, including students who may be under 18 years old. BeaconEd takes student privacy seriously. We aim to: • Collect only the information needed to provide the service • Avoid collecting highly sensitive information unless necessary • Avoid advertising or selling student data • Explain our practices in clear language • Allow students, parents, or guardians to request deletion of information If you are under 13 years old, you should not submit personal information to BeaconEd without permission from a parent or guardian. If you are a parent or guardian and have concerns about information submitted by a student, contact: team@beaconed.ca

11. Information You Should Not Submit

Please do not submit highly sensitive personal information through BeaconEd forms unless BeaconEd specifically asks for it and explains why it is needed. You should not submit: • Social Insurance Numbers • Banking information • Credit card information • Home address • Medical information • Passwords • Government identification documents • Parent income or financial records unless specifically requested for a scholarship-related feature with clear consent BeaconEd does not need this information for its early prototype.

12. Security

BeaconEd uses reasonable steps to protect the information it collects. However, no online service, email platform, form tool, or storage system is completely secure. BeaconEd reduces risk by trying to limit the amount of personal information collected and by avoiding unnecessary collection of sensitive data. If BeaconEd becomes aware of a privacy or security issue that creates a real risk of significant harm, BeaconEd will take reasonable steps to respond.

13. Accuracy of Educational Information

BeaconEd aims to provide helpful and accurate educational planning information, but information about programs, admissions, scholarships, deadlines, and requirements can change. BeaconEd's suggestions are for informational purposes only. Users should always verify important details with official sources, including: • University or college websites • Scholarship provider websites • Government student aid websites • Guidance counsellors • Admissions offices BeaconEd does not guarantee admission, scholarship eligibility, scholarship awards, or academic outcomes.

14. Changes to This Privacy Policy

BeaconEd may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of BeaconEd after changes are posted means you accept the updated Privacy Policy.
